Entrance Piece
Rozel
House
Weston Super Mare
Commissioned by Barratts South West advised by Morgan Carn Architects.
The client required a dynamic entrance piece for the front of this new
development of apartments over looking the sea at Weston Super Mare.
The "canopy" is 4M wide and is constructed in 316 stainless
steel. The material is non porous, specificaly developed for a marine environment
and is totally maintenance free.
Design considerations: There is insufficient space at the front entrance for
a free standing sculpture so a semi-utilitarian design was more appropriate so
that the sculpture forms a canopy at the entrance to the building. The sculpture
is designed to reflect the movement of the sea but also to give an elegant focal
point to the building which is situated in a conservatin area. No maintenance
is required and health and safety considerations were designed into the sculpture,
which is lit at night to emphasise the entrance and to extend the safety of the
building.
